At tonight's Township Meeting Supervisor Mike Hocking under grilling from Township Trustee's in regards to the pay practices of the Township for admitted that "Elected officials are Part-Time Employees."
This was the perfect response and begs the question of the trustees to further investigate the pay and benefit practices of the Township.
- Why are Township Assessor, Township Supervisor and Township Highway Commissioner receive full salary compensation with Retirement and Medical Reimbursement if their positions are only part-time?
- I have yet to find an approval from the Township Board setting the benefit policy of any Township Full Time employees?
- Does the Township of Peru really need any full time employees? Shouldn't the Supervisor be doing the work of any full time employees and then collecting the full time wages and benefits he pays himself now?
Voters definitely voted for reform this spring and I believe we are starting to see it come our way. I look forward to seeing the new Township website and removing the cloak that has kept so much in the dark for residents. Accountability will be a word for the future.
